Climate Change and the Environment

Stopping the harmful consequences of global climate change is the existential crisis of our generation. We cannot continue pumping pollutants into our air at no economic cost.

Each of the past four decades has been warmer than the one that preceded it and communities worldwide are experiencing record-breaking summer heat. Global temperature increases are causing prolonged droughts, extreme weather events, and rising sea levels.

I am proud to have helped co-author and pass the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The climate provisions in the IRA are projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, making the United States well-positioned to stay on track to meet its climate goals while also investing in the American economy.

In the 118th Congress, I continue to advocate to fulfill our responsibility to leave this world better than we inherited it. I am Vice Chair of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, which works to develop and advance policies that promote the clean energy transition, conservation, and environmental justice. I am also serving as Co-Chair of the Safe Climate Caucus, Co-Chair of the Endangered Species Act Caucus, and a member of the New Democrat Coalition’s Climate Task Force.

America must continue to be an innovative leader in the fight against global climate change. We need intelligent conservation policies that preserve our natural resources and an energy policy that makes smart investments in clean and renewable energy to lower costs to the American taxpayer while protecting the air, land, and water.
